Nerdy Work Issue #6: Working Well Under Pressure
Because we gotta make money even while the world ends
Welcome to another edition of Nerdy Work!
Isn’t it wild that the future of humanity is likely on the line less than two weeks from today but our culture requires us to sweat more about getting paying work than saving the world?
OK, maybe don’t answer that.
Instead, here’s the question of the week for the comments: What is the best day you’ve ever had at a job? And what about the worst?
Oh, also: Could you share this newsletter with at least a few people? You can tweet it, forward it over email, whatever you want. The more readers and awareness, the more tips we’ll get on jobs and gigs. I want to get you exclusive opportunities! You can also hit the heart up top to help us rank higher on Substack. Thank you!
One more thing: I decided not to post the long job descriptions because it slows down the process, makes the newsletter harder to read, and if you are interested in a job, you’re going to click through anyway. Plus, it allows me to include more jobs!

Nerdy Work Issue #6: Working Well Under Pressure
The best day I've had at a job was being formally recognized at an all-hands meeting for helping my team with a project with a fast turnaround. It was unexpected, but also very nice. Well actually, it's a tie between that and meeting my Division Director (so Boss Boss Boss' Boss) and when I introduced myself, he said "Congratulations!" and I was very confused, and then he went "Oh, we've talked about you in meetings." and then I went "oh..." and he had to clarify LMAO. Turns out I was getting a promotion and a raise lol.
Worst day was the entire time I spent at my last job, and that's all I'm saying about that.
My worst day is a tie between getting fired for miscommunicating the cost of a commission that I was excited to work on, and when I corrupted about a month's worth of work for a friend/client who was about to go overseas (and not knowing if he'd come back).
Can I count a whole month as the best day? The best "day" was the month I realized I could actually pay all my expenses and then some, on my art alone! Do these count, haha?
